BatWing Skate Wheels

The Client
David Wing is a professional inline skater who has had numerous sponsorship deals throughout his time skating. With his latest sponsorship at Lade Goods he was presented with the idea of creating a wheel design for him to use and for Lade Goods to sell on their retail website. David approached me to help him formulate a design around a loose idea he had.
The Brief
David wanted to use the Batman logo but for obvious licensing issues this wasn’t a viable option. I also knew that we was restricted to two colours on the wheels which drastically limited our palette. David also wanted the wheels to be known as the BatWing wheels. With this in mind I steered the brief towards the idea of using the outline of the Batman logo and creating something new and original for him which he could say was his.
The Outcome
I created a new BatWing logo utilising the outline of the batman logo originally suggested in the brief, I then set out to create a typographical word mark logo using Davids surname ‘Wing’. After a number of sketches I moved the design into Illustrator and worked up the final logo. From this I then set out to create the design for the wheels themselves. I took the yellow and black synonymous with Batman and built a simple skyline graphic around this. I also created a poster and a box for the wheels to be packaged within, pulling together the whole design and delivering a neat package for the buyer.
